Obituary for Anita L. Appelhans

Anita L. Appelhans, age 65, of Woodville, OH passed away on Monday, September 16, 2019 at Bay Park Community Hospital, Oregon, OH. She was born on June 22, 1954 in Toledo, OH to Andrew and Vera (Mathews) Appelhans. Following graduation from high school, Anita worked at WFRO in Fremont for a number of years and where she was know as the “Polka Princess”. She would later in life attend the Mercy School of Nursing, where she graduated as a Registered Nurse. She then worked at Toledo Hospital and later at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit as a registered nurse before retirement. Anita enjoyed writing in her journal and was a published journalist for an article she wrote locally. A very talented lady she was a juried quilter, and enjoyed doing needle point work, cooking, considered herself a political activist and thoroughly loved her 3 feline pals. In all of these accomplishments, in addition to many more, it was her family that gave her the most happiness.

Anita is survived by her son: Erich (Jamie) Appelhans of Woodville, OH. Sisters: Sharon (Jerry) Picklesimer or Woodville, OH; Judi (Fred) Hasselkus of Mission Viejo, CA; Andrea Brooks of FL. Anita is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and 2 great-great-nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law Tim Brooks.

At the family’s request all services are private and Anita will be laid to rest in a family committal at Westwood Cemetery in Woodville at a later date. Memorials may take the form of contributions to: The Hickman Cancer Center at Flower Hospital in Sylvania, OH.
