Obituary for Betty R. Meyer

Betty R. Meyer, age 92, of Pemberville and formerly of Luckey, OH passed away on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at Bridge Hospice Care, Bowling Green, OH. She was born on April 13, 1927 in Richwood, OH to D. Gorby and Leah (Baker) Stallsmith. Betty graduated as class Valedictorian from Richwood High School. She studied at the Flower Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1949 as a Registered Nurse. On June 3, 1951 she married Lowen H. Meyer at Zion Lutheran Church in Luckey, OH. Betty and Lowen raised 4 children and celebrated nearly 54 years of marriage before Lowen’s passing in March of 2005. In addition to being a mother, wife and homemaker, Betty worked the first 10 years of her nursing career at Flower Hospital. Betty then became the office manager and co-owner of Meyer Electric with Lowen until their retirement. Betty was a member of the Flower Hospital School of Nursing Alumni and an active member of Zion Lutheran Church where she was involved in such ministries as the Women of the Church and the choir. Betty lived out her faith through her community involvement and service to others. She was a life member of the Troy-Webster American Legion Auxiliary Post #240; one of the original members of the Luckey Garden Club; a member of the women’s golf league at Tanglewood Golf Course; and Betty was instrumental in bringing the famous Waldo Burger to the Luckey Fall Festival. Betty and Lowen were also very active in a group of local Luckey citizens that started the Luckey Library, which was dedicated in April 1990. While Betty dedicated herself to doing for others, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her the most joy.

Betty is survived by her children: Sharon (Jack) Koehler of Grove City, OH; Rick (Lisa) Meyer of Pemberville, OH; Marsha (Richard) Nelson of Luckey, OH; Brenda (David) Monroe of Quincy, MI. Betty was blessed with nine grandchildren: Zachary (Courtney) Koehler, Alex (Holly) Koehler, Dan Meyer, Kelsey Meyer, Elizabeth (Kevin) Jorrey, Emily (Carlton Smarage) Nelson, Erin (Haiden) Peters, Brian (Sarah) Monroe, and Katie (Andrew Leonard) Monroe. Betty found great delight in her three great-grandchildren: Brantley and Aubree Smarge, and Elliott Koehler. Nephews David (DJ) Stallsmith and John (Danise) Stallsmith and their families, step grandchildren/great grandchildren Amy (Pierre) Stevens, Karley and PJ Stevens; Jenny (Kenneth) Wells, Jacob and Emily Wells and special k-9 pal Bitsy will also miss her. In addition to her husband Lowen, she was preceded in death by her parents, and brother Robert Stallsmith.

Family and friends will be received from 10-11AM., Thursday, September 19, 2019 at Zion Lutheran Church, 303 Park Drive, Luckey, OH with an 11 a.m. funeral service. Officiating will be Rev. James Budke. A bereavement luncheon will be served in the church fellowship hall immediately following the cemetery committal service. Interment will be in Troy Township Cemetery.
