Obituary for Ethel "Dopple" Bockbrader

Ethel “Dopple” Bockbrader, age 97, of Bowling Green, Ohio passed away Sunday, morning, September 29, 2019 at Heritage Corner Health Care, Bowling Green, OH. She was born on October 19, 1921 to John and Mary (Justice) Hillier in Continental, OH. Following graduation from Bowling Green High School, she married Wayne C. Bockbrader on February 1, 1940 in Napoleon, OH. Ethel and Wayne raised 5 children and celebrated 63 years of marriage before his passing in 2003. In addition to being a mother, wife, and homemaker, Ethel worked as a secretary at Bockbrader Brother’s Trucking Company. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in New Rochester and was active with the “cover girls” making quilts. She was a member of the Pemberville Freedom Twp. American Legion Auxiliary post #183. She enjoyed genealogy, having traced the roots of her great-great-great-grandfather to the Revolutionary War. Ethel was young at heart and had a zest for life. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, baking, reading, and gardening. However, it was always her family that brought her the most joy.


Ethel is survived by her children: Judy (Ralph) Paoli of NV; Karen (Larry) Battles of Whitehouse; Linda O’Connell of Luckey; Les (Rhonda) Bockbrader of Bowling Green; and John Bockbrader of Pemberville. 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband Wayne, Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, grandson: Cory Graham, great-granddaughter: Kaleigh. Sisters: Zella Philo, Bertha Mossbarger, Helen Barr, Loa Kramp Ruth Woodbury and brother: Howard Hillier.

Family and friends will be received 4-8 p.m., Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at the Marsh & Marsteller Funeral Home, 4094 State Route 105 Pemberville, OH. Funeral Services will be conducted 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 3, 2019 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, New Rochester, OH where additional visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Officiating will be Pastor Bruce Bair. Interment will be in Pemberville Cemetery at a later date. A bereavement luncheon will be served at the church immediately following the service. Memorials may take the form of contributions to: St. Paul Lutheran Church or Bridge Hospice.
