Obituary for R. "Keith" Schlachter

Keith Schlachter, 84, of Pemberville and formerly of Woodville, OH passed away on Tuesday, October 29, 2019 at Otterbein Senior Life. He was born on September 23, 1935 to Virgil and Audrey (Spitler) Schlachter in New Riegel, OH. He married Nancy Thines on October 22, 1960 in Findlay, OH. Keith and Nancy raised three daughters and celebrated over 50 years of marriage together before Nancy’s passing in December of 2010. In addition to being a Veteran of the United States Army, and lifelong farmer, Keith, also owned and operated his own service station, was a truckdriver and later worked in the gas refinery all for Union 76. Keith enjoyed being outdoors, farming, hunting and attending farm auctions. His special love was his family, his children and especially his grandchildren.

Keith is survived by his daughters: Rene (Brian Spieldenner) Dix of Woodville; Jeryl (Victor) Nagy of Gibsonburg, and Dyan (Bob) Kemley of Curtice. Grandchildren: April Dix, Joshua (Amanda) Dix, Lacy (Nathan) Seamans, Dylan Kemley and great-granddaughter: Persephone. Sisters: Nancy (Joe) Kuhlman, Alice Smith and Faye (Laron) Baker. Brother: Glen Schlachter. Sister-in-law: Yvonne (Jerry) Downs and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife Nancy, he was preceded in death by his parents. Brother: Clair (Helen) Schlachter. Brother’s-in-law: Edward (Sandy) Thines and Don Smith. The family would like to express their gratitude to all of Keith’s caregivers both at Otterbein Senor Life and Hospice of Northwest Ohio. They want to extend a special thank you to his personal caregivers: Carol Jividen, Krista Davis and JoAnn Werner, for all their kindness over the years to dad.

Family and friends will be received 3-8 p.m., Thursday, October 31, 2019 at the Marsh & Marsteller Funeral Home, 201 W. Main Street, Woodville, OH. Funeral services will be at the funeral home 10 a.m., Friday, November 1, 2019 with additional visitation from 9 a.m. until time of service. Officiating will be Pastor Jeff Ridenour. Interment will be in Westwood Cemetery, Woodville. There will be a bereavement luncheon served in the church fellowship hall at Solomon Lutheran Church, 305 W. Main Street, Woodville, immediately following the cemetery committal service. Memorials may take the form of contributions to: The Woodville Branch of the Birchard Public Library, Otterbein Senior Life or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
