Obituary for Rier M. Smith

Rier M. Smith, 89, of Woodville, OH, passed away at home on Monday, June 10, 2019 with his family at his side. He was born on February 10, 1930 in Elkhart, IN to Harold M. and Roxey (Bowersox) Smith. He would serve his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War, and remained a proud veteran to this day. On February 18, 1983 he married Marilyn Osmond in Woodville, OH and the two of them have celebrated over 36 years of marriage together. Rier was a Maintenance Foreman for the Lucas County Children Services for over 25 years before his retirement. He was a member of the Woodville United Methodist Church where he had been active in such ministries as the choir and monthly would travel with a group of men from the church to prepare meals at the Martin Luther King Jr. Kitchen for the Poor. An animal lover, Rier was always seen with a pet by his side or on his lap. Amongst his greatest joys was the game of golf. He was a member at Hidden Hills Golf Club where he coached the youth golf league and was teaching his grandchildren how to play the game. It was these special times with family that truly brought him the greatest happiness as family remained at the center of his life.

In addition to his wife Marilyn, Rier is survived by his 7 children, 15 Grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and infant brother, and sister, Margaret Stackhouse.

Funeral Services will be conducted 12 p.m., Friday, June 14, 2019 at the Marsh & Marsteller Funeral Home, 201 West Main Street, Woodville, OH. Family and friends will be received from 10 a.m. until time of the service. Officiating will be Pastor Kent Winkler. Interment with full military honors will be in the Westwood Cemetery, Woodville.
