Obituary for Wayne E. Smith

Wayne E. Smith, age 77, of Pemberville, OH passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at Otterbein Senior Living in Pemberville. He was born on August 7, 1942 in Pemberville, OH to Harley and Edith (Jacobs) Smith. After graduation from Eastwood High School, he served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He married Janet A. Deitemeyer, on July 30, 1977 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Elmore, OH. Wayne and Janet have celebrated over 42 years of marriage together. A salesman most of his career, he worked at Sears Department Store in Toledo for 20 plus years before retiring. In the early days of his life, he enjoyed fishing, playing cards and taking care of his garden. His memberships included the Pemberville American Legion Post #183, and the Pemberville Historical Society. He was a man of great faith, and was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Elmore. His ministry involvement included being President of the Congregation as well as being on the committee organizing the formation of Trinity Lutheran Pre-School, just to name a few. In retirement, he would take care of local lawns for seniors and widows, as they knew Wayne was very particular in his care. His smile, community involvement and care for others will be greatly missed.
